Audience & Industry Essay Feedback

Audience & Industry Essay;
Learner Response

1) Copy & paste your feedback from the email
WWW: There is definite progress here – you’ve written over 700 words and it’s clear you’ve picked up on the discussions and debates we’ve had in class regarding the power of the internet and its influence on audiences. You’ve covered both sides of the debate for all three industries and the points you make are spot on. This is a great way to end your first term in GCSE Media and gives you a great platform to go on and target the higher grades for the rest of the course.

EBI: Your biggest area to improve on in this essay is written English. You need to make sure your spelling, punctuation and grammar is perfect when writing GCSE essays. Errors such as there/their/they’re are not acceptable at GCSE level. One issue is writing on the blog – it may be worth writing in Microsoft Word first and then copying it over to the blog. This will help you identify any spelling or grammar mistakes before publishing.

In terms of the essay itself, make sure you use the actual wording from the question in every paragraph (e.g. internet, audience, power). In your introduction you actually say the advantages and disadvantages of the media which isn’t the question!

Finally, try and add examples from the media in each paragraph. For example, in the music industry section you could discuss actual artists that have become famous through the internet and for TV you could mention Netflix original series etc.

LR: See tasks on blog.

2) What was the word count for your essay?
The word count for my essay was 736 words.

3) What was your strongest paragraph & why?
In my opinion, my strongest paragraph was the one about the Music Industry. This is because it has the least mistakes and errors out of all the other paragraphs.

4) What was your weakest paragraph & why?
In my opinion, my weakest paragraph was the one about the Film & TV Industry. This is because it has the most mistakes and errors out of all the other paragraphs.

5) Re-write one of your paragraphs from the essay
In this essay I am going to be explaining the disadvantages and advantages of the media, how it has affected a couple of industries and the fact that audiences have more power than they have had before. I agree with the statement to a certain extent because the media has given the audience more power than they had before. When it had hit the year 2000 the internet had just about came out and this affected us because as more phones came out the quality of the screens got better. So since the quality got better no one really decided to go to places like the cinema and started to watch illegal downloads. No one would buy the news as often and would get instant news of electronic devices.

Industry & Audience Power Essay

Essay Question:

“The internet has given audiences much more power than ever before.”
To what extent do you agree with this statement?

Introduction:

In this essay I am going to be explaining the disadvantages and advantages of the media and how its affected the music, film & news industry.

Music Industry;

The change due to the internet is that anyone could become famous through YouTube and other platforms. This is because there apps that are used by people world-wide and if any one of your videos goes viral then people will start to recognise your face and you'll get a lot of likes, followers, subscribers etc.

The advantage due to this changes is that audiences are able to connect with their favourite artists/role-models (famous people). This is because of Social Medias such as Instagram, Snapchat etc. This is helpful because audiences can share their feedback to anyone they want and you don't need to pay.

The disadvantage due to the change is that artists don't make as much money as they should. This is because people decide to download their music illegally instead of buying it, so there was an increase in their concert tickets and since a lot of their fans go to them they are able to earn the money that they deserve.

Film & TV Industry;

The changes due to film & TV are binge watching and world wide release dates(illegal downloads). This is because on TV they release soap opera's to different countries different times. Soap opera's get realised some people get too attached, this is when they start binge watching.

The advantages due to this change is that audiences don't have to wait a couple of days or weeks for their favourite shows to come out and they can watch it where and whenever they want. This is because on TV and apps such as Netflix they release a whole series and because of phones, tablets, laptops etc. All we need is data to access it.

The disadvantages due to this change is that even though different countries get different context at different times we are still able to access content that isn't in our country yet. This is because of the internet, we can fool it to think were in a different country even though we're not. We could also download this content illegally.

News Industry;

The changes due to the news industry are citizen journalism, live streaming and viral news 'click bait'. This is because if something big happened such as a terrorist attack or a celebrity having a fight etc, people usually use a live streaming app so that others are aware.

The advantages due to this change is audiences don't have to wait the next day for there news and what's going on around the world. This is because we have the internet and electronic devices so we can get instant news, so anyone can be a journalist at any time and all they need to have is a live streaming app.

The disadvantages due to this change is that no one pays for the news anymore so newspaper companies go out of business, journalists lose their jobs etc. This is because of the internet, instant news and because us as the audience choose what news goes viral. Also we don't know who to trust and, this is because of fake news.

Conclusion;

In conclusion to this, I believe that the internet has put out advantages, but also disadvantages. This is because things such as binge watching can be seen as both an advantage & a disadvantage. Its an advantage because we can watch soap opera's when we want and for how ever long we want, but it can be seen as a disadvantage because it can make us forget what we need to do and lose track of time.
