Advertising Key Conventions

Image result for advertisements1) What key conventions of an advert can you find and what are the connotations of each one?
I can find several key conventions from this advertisement such as a central image, direct address, colour scheme, text etc.

2) For each convention, write about how this appeals to a target audience.
The central image contains a picture of two burgers with writing above. The writing is in a sans serif font so that the reader feels connected to the advert, it also uses direct address so the reader would feel more confident to buy the product. The bigger burger is meant to be a MacDonald's one and the other one is meant to be Burger King.
The advert company is trying to draw out Burger King's food  and say it isn't as good as MacDonald's. This is a good marketing strategy.

3) What is the USP of the product and how do you know?
The unique selling point of the product is that the burger is more filling and fresh then their competitors, I know this because if you look at the two different burgers in the advertisement "THEIRS" is smaller and looks less filling, not fresh etc. Where as "OURS" looks bigger and more filling, fresher then their competitors. This is a good strategy to get people on your side instead of the competitors.

January Assessment;
Learner Response

FeedBack;
  - Revise audience psychographics
  - Revise oppositional readings for Q3
  - For the 20 mark essay questions, you need to write longer, more detailed paragraphs including
    examples from the media.

The first & second questions were one markers.For the first question I got full marks and on the second I didn't, this is because instead of writing reformer I wrote mainstream.
The third question was a eight marker and i got five marks, this is because my understanding on a preferred reading wasn't as good as it could have been. Next time, i should observe the text more clearly and think about what a lot of people would say.
The last question was a twenty marker I got seven marks, this is because i kind of rushed it and my understanding wasn't that good.

Media Terminology;

The media terminology that I need to revise more is audience psychographics & oppositional readings.

4) Look specifically at question 3 - did you successfully write about both the preferred and oppositional readings? Did your answers match any in the mark scheme?

5) Re-draft your answer to Q3. Use the indicative content suggestions in the mark scheme to write a top-level answer on your blog.
