Representation; Blog Task

1) List people, places & groups represented
The seven characters are standing on top of a roof top in West London. Three are women and four are males. Most of the characters are black.

2) Are there any stereotypes you can identify?
The stereotype of this film poster is about black men being aggressive or violent. Your able to see this because in the right corner of the poster your able to see a black man wearing a hoodie and  holding a baseball bat which could be used as a harmful weapon.

3) What is the preferred reading of this poster?

The preferred reading of this film poster is that teenagers are usually in a group and they go through the many struggles that come with adulthood. Perhaps, this was to get the message across that teenagers go through a lot despite their young age and so the creator might have wanted the audience to get a feel of what it's like for teens in modern day society.
4) What is the oppositional reading of this poster?

The oppositional reading of this film poster is that the creator was trying to communicate that young black people are anti-social, violent & aggressive. The boy in the right hand corner is wearing a hoodie which almost hides his face and he holds baseball bat which can be used as a weapon. This is an example of  implying that young black males are dangerous. It could also communicate that those who live in council flats would end up becoming a gang member.
